Is it Monday already?
I hope everyone had a nice weekend! I thought that the weather was slowly warming up over here. Saturday was pretty mild! I could feel Spring just around the corner. But then the cold came back on Sunday! BOO! Oh well, at least it's sunny!
I just have to say that I LOVE the Etsy community! Over the last year and a bit, I've had so much fun with my shop and met so many interesting people from all over the world! Not to mention purchased all kinds of cool items for myself, and as gifts for friends and loved ones.
I recently chatted with Krysthle Poitras. She runs a few different shops on Etsy. Krysthle designs beautiful jewelry; from feminine and shabby chic pieces, to more industrial / rocker chic type pieces. I have my eye on one of her necklace and earring combos. So cool! She also has a paper shop, where she sells greeting cards for all occasions. Check out the awesome 20% off discount code at the bottom of this page, for all my blog readers!
Here is the interview!
Val: How did you start out?
Krys: Well, I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. As a child, I took art classes to learn how to paint like the masters with oil paints. But I soon took on watercolors and pastels. In my late teens, I discovered acrylic paint, and it was amazing! I loved that it dried so fast. Eventually, my passion for art led me into mixed media artistry. This is where I discovered scrapbooking papers and a ton of new materials and textures that I could incorporate into my art, such as charms and beads. This is when I finally leapt into jewelry making.
I`m a very crafty person and have always enjoyed doing crafts. This is why I believe that my passion for art, be it painting or jewelry making has evolved in this way. But most if all, i love the thrill of discovering a new technique or craft and trying it out.
Val: What inspires you?
Krys: A lot of things inspire me. Nature, fashion, textures, just to name a few. But I mostly find that inspiration on Pinterest! You can find anything on that site, it`s addictive. You will notice that i have two styles, so lots of things inspire me, but in different ways. For one, I love everything shabby chic and feminine. Pastel colors, flowers, weddings, romance and vintage inspired are a few keywords that I would associate with my girly style. On the other hand, I also have a little bit of a funky/boho/rocker chic side to me. I love working with spike beads, metals, clean lines, contrasts, and industrial looking items.
Val: What is your favorite part of your creative process?
Krys: My favorite part of the creative process is shopping! Maybe I`m a shopaholic! LOL Retail-therapy is the best way to get into a good mood. When you see new finds, colors and trends in the products you are shopping, it always stimulates the imagination and get the ideas flowing! I guess I`m also a dreamer. I live in my head and can stay awake at night thinking of ideas for crafts to do the next day!

Val: Are there any people in particular that have helped or inspired your work?
Krys: For sure! I can`t thank enough my mother for supporting my artsy side when I was a child and my boyfriend who works hard all day so that I can buy beads! LOL Those are the main two that have helped. As for inspiration, I get everywhere! But i do have some favorite websites. I love checking out the Nunn Design Blog (www.nunndesign.com) for new techniques and ideas. They are a creative bunch! I also love checking out Websters Pages for scrapbooking supplies. They have the best stuff if you ask me!
Val: Any favorite artists, or quotes that inspire you?
Krys: Favorite artists? Yes a few. I love what Anie from Inspired Forest Art makes. Each one of her creations is so cute and whimsical! (www.etsy.com/shop/InspiredForestArt)
